My creation

My creation
Originally uploaded by Nanook155.
I am trying to do this from Flickr, so I hope this works!!! I am definitely going to have to retry the magazine cover maker, because my coloring is a little off, but I will save that for another day. The fun factor, however, will lead me back to it. I like producing fun articles about people I know (but only as a good joke I know they will understand).

Magazine Covers (Week 5, Exercise 10)

I really hope my cover actually shows up when I publish this post. As of right now, I just have a blank spot (with the red x) where the picture should be. I may have to do this again.

Library Feeds (Week 4, Exercise 9)

I used Feedster to grab news information about libraries, but it was pretty general information. I haven't tried a really refined search, but Feedster seemed like a great source for just quick links to general info. I started running around on the internet looking for RSS feeds from reliable sources. I was surprised that the ALA's main site does not have a feed, while the SAA site does. (Again I notice which sites have them and which ones don't.)

RSS Feeds (Week 4, Exercise 8)

I had set up a Bloglines account for my website design course, but I had no idea what to do with it. After reading through the Bloglines tutorials, I greatly appreciate the program. To have everything in one place makes life a little easier. (And it's easy to use.) What I have particularly noticed is which sites have feeds and which don't. I was surprised, for example, that mugglenet.com (a major Harry Potter fan site) did not have a feed while something like pajiba.com (a movie review blog) did.

Anything about technology (Week 3, Exercise 6 and 7)

I happen to be taking a course in school (for Library Science) on building websites. Having Flickr (and finally figuring out how it works) has improved a great deal my ability to design websites. They may not be the prettiest things, but I am still trying. Using Montagr and the Flickr Color Pickr makes things just that little bit easier. I have been able to color coordinate my sites a little better now and come up with interesting ideas on what to "montage". I have been greatly enjoying the combination of technology and creativity that website design affords me.

Using Flickr (Week 3, Exercise 5)

Okay, so I have finally started using Flickr and uploading my own photographs for public view. Interestingly enough, I really started using it because MySpace does not accept pictures over 600KB and most of mine are over 1M. MySpace has been an excellent place for me to interact with my siblings using multimedia, from photographs to videos to audio tracts. (I look forward to recording podcasts... heeheehee). Anyway...

Annoying Flickr traits:

-I can't seem to go back and add descriptions, titles, or tags after I save the picture.
-I'm still not sure about the whole privacy thing (leading me to not actually state anyone's name in my descriptions).
-The Creative Commons is not the most intuitive thing to use (where do we find the citation info?), which leads me to...
-A long list of instructions and FAQs to figure the bloody thing out.

Week 3

I've been waiting patiently for my first glimpse of true library excitement. For drunk people on bicycles, thieves getting tackled, chases, anything. Our library security, however, are completely on top of every commotion and difficult situation. Heck, at this point I would love to hear gun shots and see blood spreading slowly across the linoleum.

But I have been left unsatisfied. Nothing ever happens when I am at work... until today!

I received the wonderful opportunity to witness an arrest. Well, to be perfectly honest, I got to see, at a distance, library security walk someone out of the building in handcuffs. No blood, no chases, no gun shots. It was all done every quietly, and I probably would not have noticed if I hadn't looked up at just the right moment.

Though there was that one time where these two guys started fighting, now that I think about it. That was pretty interesting... but more on that later.
